I was eagerly looking forward to exploring a new region near Assam, namely Mizoram, and had waited a long time to acquire good-quality materials. Instead of using wood chips for the distillation, I gathered very fine shavings of high-quality wood, especially those that were closely associated with the resin. After the distillation process, I observed that the base of the alembic was filled with resins, and it was exceedingly sticky—an unmistakable sign of high-quality resinous shavings.
Distillation apparatus: Copper alembic still
Method: Steam and hydro combo (I designed this alembic myself so that I could use it for both steam and hydro distillation simultaneously; in India, very few distillers use copper alembics for Oudh, mostly preferring stainless steel units.)
Region: Mizoram
Soaking period: 3 days
It is essential to maintain a slow flame and a constant temperature during distillation.
The scent profile of the Oudh oil can vary significantly due to factors such as the region, the age of the wood, the distillation technique, and many other factors. Currently, it has a fresh scent, so I cannot provide you with the exact profile. However, once it ages, it will undoubtedly become one of the most exquisite fragrances.
I highly recommend this product to beginners, collectors, individuals with experience in other regional oils, and connoisseurs.
